Meals for the Homeless
This past weekend, I cooked and prepared meals for the homeless. This was a challenging project as I cooked about 40 meals in total. I have made meals for the homeless before but this time I cooked something different which came with its own challenges. This time I decided to make potato salad as the main course with some snacks on the side. It took a long time to wash and cut all of the potatoes and since I wasn't familiar with boiling potatoes, I had to watch them closely and learn how long it takes them to cook. I worked on a couple things at a time which kept me busy throughout the whole meal-making process. The biggest challenge I faced was cooling the potatoes once they cooked so I could use them in the potato salad. Since the potatoes needed to be cool in order to be used, I had to be resourceful and find creative ways to cool the potatoes in a short period of time since I had a deadline to finish the meals by. I ended up getting everything done on time and everything turned out great, I learned a lot during this process and I can't wait to make meals again as it is incredibly rewarding to be able to help out others in need. This experience demonstrates learning outcome 2 because I undertook and faced challenges throughout my process and in the end I developed new skills from overcoming these challenges such as learning how to prep and cook potatoes, how to cool something down quickly, and how to manage several things at once. This was a fun and rewarding experience and I'm looking forward to next time!
