Changing the World One Radical LEAP at a Time
Over this past Thanksgiving break, I was fortunate enough to be able to spend some relaxing outdoor time in the hill country with my family. During the few days there, I embarked on a journey to read this book by Steve Farber called, The Radical Leap. And this book might have changed, or at least shifted my life. It is a short, but impassioned and inspiring book on extreme leadership. Farber introduced a new approach to authentic leadership, one that can change the world (I recommend you read the book to find out). After finishing the book, I was inspired to work towards being an extreme leader and living out my authentic desires without regard to normal constraints. What does this mean? That one thing I want to do while on this earth is change the world through my efforts and through being an extreme leader. Change the world? I know it may sound far-reaching, but I don’t think so. Anything seems far-reaching until someone does it, so I guess we’ll wait and see. But all of this thinking of being an extreme leader and changing the world got me journaling about my thoughts. Engaging with the idea of leadership in a huge world with millions of people. But that is exactly why we need more leaders. Anywhere you are in the world, at any time, leadership is a valued trait but can be also difficult to teach and to raise leaders. Through engaging with this issue of leadership through journaling and even family dinner conversations, I have a better understanding of the issue and also how I might start to tackle it in the future. This experience illustrates learning outcome 6 because I engaged with an issue of global importance- leadership through thought-provoking journaling and conversations.
