Book Sorting Charity
Over the weekend, my family and I volunteered with other Post Oak families to sort donated books. Early Saturday morning, my family and I drove out to a warehouse where in one unit we would be sorting books. I really wanted to participate in this service event because these books went to underprivileged children and libraries that needed more books. I have a passion for reading, and I always have. I believe there is something so special and unique about reading and diving into a different world that I think every person should have access to. I was so excited to be a part of this service event. When I first arrived, there was no one else but our family. We began by creating categories to sort the books in, then one by one going through the boxes of books and organizing them. As time went on, more and more families started to join, and you could feel the energy of the room as we all got into a rhythm. To me, it was a beautiful thing, for all of these people to support this charity of donating books to underprivileged children. I connected this experience to learning outcome six because I participated in an issue of global significance- which is the lack of books for underprivileged children and libraries.
