Wobbly Wakesurfing
Over the Fourth of July weekend, a couple of friends and I spent about a week at one of their lake houses and we challenged ourselves in some new water sports. One of my favorite and most rewarding sports was wakesurfing behind the boat. It was my first time trying this sport out and it looked extremely difficult and there were a lot of things I had to remember and be aware of. I kept doubting myself and coming up with bad scenarios of what could happen. Then finally it was my turn to try it out. My heart was racing as I knew people were watching my every move. On my first try I barely managed to stand up but I was too late and missed the wake and was surfing behind it. The next couple of tries were failures and I was starting to doubt myself and was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to do it. Then I just thought to myself, take a deep breath, you can do it, just focus on getting up on the board, breathe, and commit. That’s all I needed, I needed to calm myself, focus, and commit. That was the key and I got up on the board, in the perfect position, in front of the wake, smoothly gliding on the wave. Standing up on that board and standing up to my doubts was an incredible feeling and a great lesson for myself that I know I will encounter many more times in my life. This experience reflects CAS learning outcome 2 because I encountered challenges and wanted to try this sport that was a challenge to me and although I failed multiple times, I kept getting back up and worked on believing in myself and trusting myself and practiced some calming techniques and I overcame my challenge.
