Chore Corps Service Event

On Saturday, I went to an NHS service event with Chore Corps through Interfaith Ministries. Our task was to help the elderly with whatever chores they needed help with. The NHS group split up into two groups and each group went to two houses each for an hour. We worked on both house chores and yard work. The inside house chores included cleaning the kitchen, cleaning bathrooms, making beds, and any other little things they needed help with around the house. The yard work included raking leaves, trimming overgrown vines, and tidying up the front and backyard. We all worked together to get as many chores done as possible. I think it’s safe to say we all had fun helping the elderly. Our goal in this activity was to get involved with an issue of global significance which was the issue of the elderly not being able to do all of their chores and not be able to hire someone to do it because of the expense. All over the world, elders are struggling to keep up with all the chores and cleaning while still looking out for their health and saving money to live off of. This service follows learning outcome 6 because I engaged in an activity that worked with an issue of global significance.
